From a very early age I KNEW that I was going to be a famous singer. I used to put on playground concerts for my classmates on a daily basis, and knew every word to every pop song from the 90s (I still do, actually.)

As I got older I started to struggle with my singing. I felt constant tension, lost a chunk of my range and all of my confidence. Nobody around me knew what to do (this was before the magic of google) so I assumed that I was no longer talented. I spent 4 years trying to carve out a new life for myself as a non-singer. I learned a lot, but any singer who has been through something similar will know that life without singing is pretty miserable.

Eventually I found a technique focussed singing teacher who helped me to develop the flexibility in my voice. I was so inspired by seeing how simple exercises could make singing feel so much easier! However I always felt that I had to work hard at my singing technique and there were certain elements of it that just didn’t improve. In July 2023 that I discovered that I have a tongue tie. This explained so many things about my struggles with singing, and I am currently learning as much about it as I can so that I can help other singers with similar issues as it is surprisingly common! Having a tongue tie has required me to work hard at my technique and this in itself has made me a more knowledgeable and empathetic coach for the singers that I work with.

I talk about my tongue tie journey on my YouTube channel which you can find here.

I am completely fascinated by seeing people transform themselves and exceed their own expectations. As a vocal coach, this is what I get to do every day. It is ridiculously good fun!

Nowadays I am an Authorised Vocology In Practice Coach, a PAVA Associate, a Vocal Health First Aider, Vocal Habilitation Professional, and a hardcore member of The SpeakEasy Cooperative. I have also studied Vocal Pedagogy at Post Graduate level through the amazing Voice Study Centre, and am a keen reader of all things related to the voice, singing and general self development,

My vocal coaching methods

I love people and their individual quirks, and can’t help but tweak my approach to serve the needs of every singer that I work with. This means that my clients are constantly improving, and I never get bored. I love a challenge, and am scarily patient.

My approach is inspired by many things including:

  • Vocal Science and anatomy

  • Speech Level Singing

  • Estill

  • Breathing Coordination

  • Acoustic science

  • Feldenkrais

  • The Alexander Technique

  • Vocal Health

  • Motor Learning

  • Mindfulness

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Myofunctional Therapy

  • and more…

Excellent singing is about SO much more than muscles and breath, and these days my coaching style encompasses Sensory Learning, mindset coaching, the Person Centred Approach, accountability and goal setting. I know that changing our vocal habits happens much more quickly and enjoyably when we take into account the 'whole' person.

As well as coaching singers, I am also a former Lecturer at The Academy of Contemporary Music and writer for iSing Magazine, a Jack Russell Mum, an amateur yogi and a try-hard runner.
